Graffiti Lettering Part I

Directions

What you'll need:

  • Paper

  • Pencil

  • Markers

Graffiti and street art can be found all over Indianapolis. You can often find a lot of stylized lettering with eye-popping colors. We're about to walk you step-by-step through a couple of examples of word art that you can try at home!

Pick a simple word to start with. Lightly draw it with a pencil, leaving space in between each letter.

Draw a border around each letter and erase the lines inside. Now you have block letters!

Erase a line that closes up the end of a letter.

Turn the end of that letter into an arrow by drawing a triangle on top.

Add a few more arrows to other ends of letters.

Now we'll make our letters look 3D.

Add diagonal lines going the same direction to the corners of letters.

Connect those diagonal marks with lines that follow the shape of your letter.

Do this on the left side of each letter.

Outline your word in marker, erase extra pencil lines.
